Promotion of Geography:
www.aag.org
This site promotes geography through its extensive list of educational opportunities. Specifically, the use of grants to provide professional development for educators is beneficial to the promotion of geography. Their ARGUS materials (which they list as “award winning”) are available for order online. They also offer numerous online activities that appear to be engaging. Furthermore, they offer grants for the study and promotion of geography.
A Website that I could use in my classroom:
As a teacher of students with emotional and behavioral disabilities, materials that have visuals are always welcome. Earth from Space (at www.earthfromspace.si.edu) has vivid images that can be used in my classroom to help students see how we fit into our environment. My students are all from rural areas. It’s often times difficult for them to understand the size and scope of our earth. The pictures of the cities are particularly important. I can use the images from “The Human Presence” to help them understand different ways that people live.
OK, I know that this doesn’t have as much to do with this, but how cool would it be to have them work on the green roof idea or the application of solar panels? There’s a sea of grey and (from what I have seen) there are no green roofs. We could work on sustainability through the images.
